Grilling Guide

grilling guide - cleaning and caring for your wood pellet grill

Grilling safety should be at the top of your list of concerns when you invest in a pellet grill. We want all our customers to enjoy the delicious meats, fruits and veggies that can be made with our grills, but we don’t want you to put yourself at risk while doing it.

Luckily, keeping your grill clean and implementing a few preventative measures can ensure that it functions correctly and protects you from any problems caused by grease buildup or germs. Follow these suggestions to keep your grill working at its best.

Cleaning Your Grill

It takes only a few minutes to clean a grill after every fifth to eighth usage, which can lengthen the life of the equipment while also keeping it tidy. That said, every time you finish grilling, you should give the grill grate a good wipe with your wire cleanup brush to clear out any debris from food. Complete this step after you’ve extinguished the flames but while the grate is still hot, making it easier to remove food buildup.

Next, follow these steps to clean up your grill after five to eight grilling sessions:

  • Remove the ash from the bottom.
  • Clean the grates with soap and water — we do not recommend using abrasive cleaners or pads, which can scrape the grill.
  • Empty the grease can or bucket regularly.
  • Wipe down the temperature sensors to make sure they read correctly.

Don’t perform any cleaning until the grill has cooled. Otherwise, you risk burning yourself. Note, our pellet grills are all slightly different, so you may not need to perform every step with each grill.

Caring for Your Grill

Regular maintenance will keep your grill in shape for longer. Complete the following tasks to maintain your grill and avoid safety hazards:

  • Polish stainless steel outer parts with stainless steel polish.
  • Cover your drip tray with aluminum foil. Swap out greasy foil regularly.
  • Avoid using wet pellets, which can swell and damage your grill.
  • Use a shop vac to remove the debris from your hopper.

Grill Care Accessories

Buying grill care accessories can make it easier to care for your grill and keep it in top working condition. We offer a number of options to help the grill function optimally. Here are four useful favorites:

  • Do you have a grease can on your grill? Swap it out for a grease bucket, which will allow you to operate the grill for longer without dumping the grease.
  • Protect your grill from the elements with a grill cover made from polyester. It looks sharp and will keep rain, snow and wind from damaging the grill.
  • An ash basket will let you shake out the ash from the charcoal before you put your grill to work. This move will improve the heat flow to your food.
  • Ash tools will allow you to move ashes around and get more optimal air flow.
