Smoked Apple Walnut Bread

Smoked Apple Walnut bread is a delicious baked treat that you’ll enjoy having for breakfast any day.

Apple and walnut flavors both lend themselves perfectly to smoked foods, so it’s a wonder why this recipe hasn’t taken the world by storm yet!

The enticing smell of this bread will draw the neighborhood to your backyard, reminding everyone of early mornings at grandma’s house or their favorite bakery. The best part of it all is that this takes less than 10 minutes to prepare, and the rest of the time is letting your smoker do all the work!

Ingredients

  • 1-2 Apples, Shredded (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp work well)
  • 1 C Walnuts (Optional, Pecans also work well)
  • 1 Egg
  • ½ Tbsp Cinnamon
  • ½ Tsp Nutmeg
  • ½ Tsp Salt
  • ¼ Tsp Baking Soda
  • ½ Tbsp Baking Powder
  • 1.5 C Flour
  • ¼ C Vegetable Oil
  • 1 C Sugar
  • 1 Tsp Vanilla Extract (Optional, substitute half with Almond extract for nuttier flavor)

Directions

  • Start your pellet grill or smoker and set it to 350F.
  • While the smoker heats up, shred your apples into a bowl and discard the cores. Cheese grater works perfectly well here.
  • Lightly combine your apples with your sugar and allow them to rest until the sugar has dissolved completely. This can take up to 10 minutes.
  • Mix your apples and sugar with all the other wet ingredients and your nuts.
  • In a separate bowl, combine all your remaining dry ingredients.
  • Now slowly incorporate your dry ingredients into your wet ingredients creating your dough. Do this gently by hand, using an electric beater will overmix the dough.
  • Finally, grease an 8×4 bread pan and pour your dough into it.
  • Place inside your smoker and allow it to bake for approximately 50-55 minutes.
  • After 45-minutes begin checking for doneness by sticking a toothpick into the center of the bread. If it comes out clean, then your bread is likely done.
  • Pull the Apple Walnut Bread out of your smoker and allow it to rest for 5-10 minutes before removing it from the loaf pan to cool.
