Sam's Smoked Salsa

Homemade salsa is good, but smoked homemade salsa — that’s even better! Follow along to prepare this simple smoked salsa recipe that is bursting with fresh flavor plus a smoky kick. You won’t want to wait until Cinco de Mayo or your next big tailgate to whip up a batch.


  • 1 Onion
  • 4 Tomatoes
  • 4-5 Cloves Garlic
  • 3-5 Jalapeños
  • 4-8 oz of spicy tomato sauce or puree
  • Small handful of cilantro
  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Salt


Put large tomatoes, jalapeños (stemmed and halved lengthwise),  onion (halved), and cloves of garlic in a cast iron pan on your smoker at 250 for one hour. Hickory pellets are recommended, but feel free to use whatever you prefer.

Once smoked, skin the tomatoes and put smoked ingredients in a food processor with cilantro, spicy tomato sauce/puree, a splash of apple cider vinegar, and salt to taste.

Pulse until fully mixed and you get your desired consistency.
