The Kong uses lump charcoal for excellent flavor, something that your average gas grill can’t touch. The ancient design of kamado grills goes back at least 3,000 years. These grills, also sometimes referred to as “egg smokers” due to their shape, are able to retain heat and moisture for extended cooking. The Kong does an amazing job with grilled pizza, as the ceramic dome absorbs and radiates heat much like a professional pizza oven while reaching temperatures as high as 700 degrees. This ceramic kamado grill can do much more than pizza, however, it’s ideal for just about any BBQ meal as it does an excellent job of maintaining temperature and retaining moisture in your food. The grill includes a dome temperature gauge, adjustable vent, EZ glide wheels, a sure-latch lid and stainless-steel cooking grates. The attached, twin work surfaces fold down for easy storage. You don’t need a giant manual or to be a mechanical engineer to assemble a Kong Kamado Smoker Grill. It’s only a matter of attaching some wheels and side tables. We have a video that walks you through how to assemble the Kong. How do I season my Kong? The charcoal will heat up and should be allowed to remain red hot for at least 30 minutes before you use your Kong for the first time. Leave the coals in position once they are lit, don’t try to turn or stoke them; this will ensure a more uniform and efficient burn. Where do I get replacement parts for the Kong? Replacement parts for the Kong can be purchased from our online store. How do I remove the ash that’s in the bottom of the Kong? Open the grill’s bottom vent and use the ash tool to rake out the remaining ashes. If you’re using natural lump charcoal, you’ll need to do this after about 8 to 10 uses (a big buildup of ash will reduce airflow and impact the grill’s heating properties). How do I start the Kong? Can I use lighter fluid? First, place a newspaper roll and either solid relighters or lighter cubes on the Kong’s charcoal plate. Next, put two to three handfuls of lump charcoal over the top of the newspaper. Open the bottom vent and use either a long-nosed lighter or safety matches to light the newspaper. Once the newspaper catches, build a small bed of hot embers by keeping the bottom vent and lid open for at least 10 minutes. IMPORTANT: Never use gasoline, lighter fluid, alcohol, or other flammable substance to light or relight your grill. Never overload the unit with fuel as intense heat may damage your grill. How do I manage the temperature of the Kong? If you are cooking slowly and at low temperatures, close both vents before the thermometer reaches 220°F. For medium roasting, let the grill reach about 300°F then shut down the vents to halfway. For high heats, wait until the temperature reaches 500 to 550°F and then close the vents halfway What’s the best way to cool down my Kong after a cook? Close both the bottom slide door and the top vent completely, and leave them like this until the desired cooking temperature is reached. Then, readjust the slide door and the top vent to regulate the temperature. Kong is King

I’ve been using the Kong for several weeks, and it is a fantastic Kamado! I’ve smoked ribs, pork butts and chicken. The Kong holds steady temp once you get it dialed in with little to no effort and turns out AMAZING food. I’ve also made pizza and seared some pork chops at high heat. The Kong is King and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to amount looking to get into Kamado cooking.

Grill is great, service is even better.

My previous kamado was an 18" Big Green Egg, and I wanted a little more cooking space. I was tentative not going with one of the two big brands, but I found the Kong to be of great quality. It arrived in perfect condition and assembled easily. What I was surprised by was the level of customer service I have received from Grilla. I had two small issues and reached out to them via email and got a response and resolution within 5 minutes. Blown away by that. Thanks guys.

    Grilla grills KONG

Shipped right to my house, easy to assemble, have used it on ribs, chicken, streak, pork butt, it does it all with fantastic results. The KONG can smoke all day at 250 and sear a steak at 600 degrees if you wish. Also indirect for the best prime rib in the world. If there was an option for 10 stars on this review I would click on it, just really impressed how this unit holds in the juices of anything you cook with a fantastic flavor too. The heat that this thing retains when using quality lump charcoal is amazing, almost a convection type of heat that you adjust to your liking. Just a great investment that will last a long time and will always turn out great food for family and friends, you will have NO regrets with the KONG if you love to bbq.

Kong Kamado is King of the BBQ Jungle!

Just for reference, I am not a novice griller, I currently have a Weber Genesis, Weber Q, Weber Kettle and a New Braunfels offset smoker. This is my first kamado style cooker and I looked at many options before selecting the Kong. In the end the per $ value is far superior with this grill over the other popular brands. I received it just before Christmas. It was delivered to my home and placed in my garage. The packing was great and no breakage of any kind. Initial impression was it's huge and its awesome! Thought I over did it with the size. The overall quality of the unit is very good. The ceramic parts look solid and the SS attachments are also high quality. Easy to assemble. Moved to my pool deck (with help!) and did a seasoning burn. Tried to keep it under 300 for 3-4 hours and was moderately successful. Then opened the vents and cranked it up to about 650 and held there for about 30 minutes. First cook was grilled lamb chops which turned out great. Have used it about 8 times over the past month and absolutely love it! I have cooked a standing rib roast, pizza, steak and ribs. All turned out fantastic. I can't wait for my first Low & Slow pork butt cook! Once you are used to the settings, you can have good control of the temp, as long as you don't overheat during startup. Be patient, bring it up slowly and it does great! Since purchase of the Kong Bundle, I have added a KAB and the split diffuser. Both of which significantly added to the ease of operation of the Kong and I highly recommend. I did have to do some slight air tightening on the top damper. Easy fix with some nomex gasket tape. I also had to adjust the bottom vent to get it to seal a better. Once that was done, temp control got significantly better! As stated earlier, I thought I over did it on the size of this grill, but now that I have used it several times, I think its great for how I will be using it. So far the ordering process has been great! I have not needed Customer Service but I would have to think it is top notch as well. I have decided to get rid of my offset smoker and the weber kettle because Kong does what they do but better! I highly recommend this grill! If you are on the fence about going to this type of grill setup, jump off and get on board with the Kong Kamado craze. You will wonder why you didn't do it sooner!
